-- Sue Frisch, Dessin Animal Shelter manager

Top Ten Reasons Why You Can't Trust Vicious Pit Bulls

10. They will steal your spot on the couch while you are up getting a soda.
 9. They will take the treat you give them and bury in the back yard like a paranoid crack head hiding their stash.
 8. They will jump on your bed with muddy feet. Making you do the laundry...again!
 7. They will lick visitors with an uncontrolled passion only they understand.
 6. They will cause children to smile.
 5. They will make you feel horrible for not walking them by looking at you with deep sad eyes.
 4. They will look at you like you committed a crime against them if you don't let them lick your ice cream bowl.
 3. They will cause wide spread happiness in large group settings.
 2. They will crack you up by shaking their butts so hard you think they are going to snap in half.
And the number one reason why you can't trust vicious Pit Bulls...
 1. They will steal your heart like a thief in the night, showing you complete and pure love that only a Pit Bull can show.

The Monster
I see the children in the park,
my master lets me play with them,
I love them and they love me and we play togeather happily. Untill their mother comes and says
children stay away from thoes monsters they eat children like you!
and she takes them away
And then I wonder who the monster is
then it hits me,
she is talking about me.
And so now here I am all chained up and very lonly.

"What has been accomplished by Ontario's pit bull ban is that the government has been allowed to avoid the more difficult task of regulating human behaviour and finding the resources to educate the public in a meaningful way."   - Clayton C. Ruby, Lawyer for the legal challenge against the Ontario goverment.

She is my best friend
my only friend
she knows my every thought and every feeling
she is in my soul
and I am in hers
I finally found a love i never knew before
faithful, loyal, friend till the end.
I will protect her
like she has protected me.
I thought she was going to heaven
all night I prayed
but she fought like always
my best friend, she stayed..

"Some breeds suffer from great popularity. A motion picture, a television show, a product commercial - all influence the public to seek out a particular breed of dog..."
- Norma Bennett Woolf

We can't possibly put a dent in the homeless pit bull situation, unless we concentrate on educating the public. Education is the key to saving these noble dogs." - Diana McKay, Pit Bull Education Coordinator, betterplacerescue.org

"The shelters that do adopt out pit bulls are completely overloaded and must often euthanize them because they are not able to find them good homes. The lucky ones spend months, sometimes years, rotting behind bars on a cold cement floor." - PBRC.net (Pit Bull Rescue Central)

"Many US jurisdictions have breed specific bans or vicious dog laws. These laws blame dogs for their breeds, not their deeds. They indict the therapy dogs and search and rescue dogs and gentle family pets along with the dogs that roam at large, threatening neighbors and their pets."  - Norma Bennett Woolf

"The number of fatal dog bites is minuscule. When it happens, people get upset and blame the breed, but there is no scientific evidence that one breed bites more than another."  - Dr. Kim Blindauer (Veterinarian, Altanta CDC)

look me in my eyes but dont show signs of fear

call me with a whistle thats how i know your here

walk me with conviction and hold your head up high

because for you and only you, you know that i will die

if you feed me when im hungry and rub my head and chest

i will protect you to the end with my last dieing breath

people call me vicious and say that im no good

but a heart of a true pit bull is something they never understood

i use to fight for you and you knew i never quit

i never understood why you threw me in that pit

its time for you to take a stand and speak in my stead

because a pit without its owner might as well be dead

loyalty to our owner was our only goal in mind

our stories told through history in books and over time

the "pit" is our domain where we matched in dirt and mudd

and whence the chain came of our necks our breed was forged in blood

when we crossed that line a cur you will not see

because a dog that turns its tail is dog that will not be

this was our way of life this was also our creed

without the game in us you have lost the entire breed

I'M A PIT
I'm a Pit
I'll never hate you one bit
You can use me to fight
But you I'll never bite
You don't have to feed me today
And I won't cry or bay
You can take my bone
Buut I won't leave you alone
You can hate me 'cause I'm a Pit
And I'll never hate you one bit

I can fight and I can roll,
I can bite and I can hold,
but there's one thing I will not do.
I can sit and I can stay,
I can jump and I can play,
but there's one thing I will not do.
I'm a champ it's in my blood,
you can loan me out for stud,
but there's one thing I will not do.
You can kick me and treat me bad but I'll still love you like your my dad,
but there's one thing I will not do.
You can starve me and leave me alone
but I know that you'll be home
but there some thing I will not do
and that is never stop pleasing you.

“If someone raises a dog to be aggressive it will be, no matter what breed it is.”  – Dr. Ilana Reisner, director of the behavior clinic at the University of Pennsylvania’s veterinary hospital.

"Most dog attacks are not because of a problem with the breed, but because of a problem with the people that handled them."   – Dr. Ilana Reisner, director of the behavior clinic at the University of Pennsylvania’s veterinary hospital.

"Breed bans do not promote responsible dog ownership or actively work to protect the public – It is a smokescreen which falsely gives the impression that action has been taken to prevent dog attacks, when in reality little is being achieved." – EndangeredDogs.com (UK)

"Bad owners create dogs that are unpredictable. These dogs are not properly socialized to people, children and other animals. They are not properly trained, and they’re owned by irresponsible, ignorant people that refuse to take responsibility for their dog’s training. Because of them, Pitbulls have gone from being the all-American breed, prized for their loyalty and intelligence, to the most feared and misunderstood breed ever known." - Carroll Bou, National Ledger

"Given the amount of statistical facts and their wide spread exploitation by the mass media, it surely pays to be at least aware of the dangers (how easily we may be duped with scientifically sounding facts and numbers)." – A. Bogomolny, Author of: Misuse and Misconception of Statistical Facts

"Any shelter with high numbers of pit bulls would benefit from the skills learned at Pit Ed Camp as we focus on targeting limited resources toward the true breed ambassadors. Doing so is good for the shelter, good for the people who adopt the dogs, good for the breed and good for the community." – Donna Reynolds, BAD RAP executive director

"Laws which ban all dogs of a certain appearance based solely on appearance and not behavior - are a reality, a reality pit bull owners live with everyday. Imagine for a moment having a dear friend you know to be the paragon of loyalty, sweetness, patience, and good humor, constantly portrayed as "evil", unpredictable and savage, and you will begin to understand the frustration."  – Diane Jessup, www.workingpitbull.com

"Not every pit bull is a bad dog, not every lab is a good dog. You see some wonderful poodles walking down the sidewalk that will just eat your arm off if you stick your hand out."

– Patsy Beeker, Program Director, Kitty City

"They'll suspend animal hides from poles. I've seen them with rabbit fur, all kinds of stuff. The dog jumps up and hangs on it. It gets them used to biting into the fur of another animal."—Louisiana trooper Mack Dickinson

"All these cases we've done, we've seized illegal weapons, narcotics, wanted people. Based on my experience most of these people who fight dogs have criminal records for some pretty big offenses or are wanted for some pretty serious offenses."—Dickinson

"If you are raiding a dog fight in progress, it's usually a bunch of guns, money and drugs all over the floor, because nobody wants to get caught with it."  —Sandy Christiansen, president of the Spartanburg, S.C., Humane Society, and a dogfighting consultant for law enforcement in several states

"It's crazy. They'll bring video cameras, and they'll tape it, especially if they're trying to showcase a certain dog they want to sell. They're so dumb, they'll run away from the cops and drop the camera."—Kathryn Destreza, director of humane law enforcement for the Louisiana SPCA

"It can be anywhere from one to 45 dogs. The biggest one was one bust where we took in 178 dogs in two days. Typically, they either are recently fought and all chewed up, crusty, still bleeding, all the way to just having old scars. … We euthanize them. Our Louisiana law is very clear. The dogs are considered a danger and are euthanized. That doesn't mean the breed is. They're the victims all the way to the end."  —Destreza

"Absolutely, the No. 1 thing that the public needs to know is that just because an animal shows aggression to another animal, it doesn't mean they're dangerous to a person. … Greyhounds rip rabbits to shreds. … A well-bred pit bull can be devastatingly aggressive to other dogs if he's allowed to be; however, that same dog isn't necessarily going to be aggressive to other people. I think the important thing for people to know is that these dogs are victims and we need to include them in our circle of compassion." —Diane Jessup, a pit bull owner and a retired animal control officer in Washington state

"It's not uncommon for a case to drag on for a year. Obviously, you have to house the dogs for those periods of time. They're considered evidence to a criminal operation. We've spent $1.2 million for house fighting dogs" from 2002 to 2007. —Sgt. David Hunt of the Franklin County (Ohio) Sheriff's Dept., who adds that the dogs inevitably are euthanized by the state

If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you; that is the principal difference between a dog and a man.
